LSU Associate Professor George Judy is professional theater group Swine Palace’s new artistic director.

At the request and approval of the Swine Palace Board of Directors during its July 13 meeting, Judy was appointed as Swine Palace’s third artistic director.

Judy, who previously served as interim artistic director for Swine Palace, is an associate professor of acting and directing in the LSU Department of Theatre. He is also head of the LSU College of Music & Dramatic Arts’ Master of Fine Arts acting program.

Judy delighted audiences in the title role in last season’s Swine Palace production of King Lear. He also played Lear in productions at Solstice Rep-ertory Theatre in Atlanta and, more recently, as an Equity guest artist at SUNY, New Paltz in New York, where he also played Robert in Proof for the New Paltz Repertory Theatre.

A member of the Actors’ Equity Association and the Screen Actors Guild, Judy’s credits as an actor, writer, director and educator include work with the Royal National Theatre Studio, London; The Asolo Theatre; Kentucky Shakespeare Festival; Pennsylvania Centre Stage; Illinois Shakespeare Festival; and 12 seasons with the Tony Award-winning Utah Shakespearean Festival.

Swine Palace was founded in 1992 in association with LSU Theatre as a non-profit professional theatre company sup-porting the educational mission of LSU Theatre. In 2007, Swine Palace’s production of The Heidi Chronicles made a historic tour to Beijing and Shang-hai, China. Swine Palace’s 2007 world premiere production of Cocktail was chosen to represent the United States at the 2011 Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space, the world’s largest theater design exhibition and competition.
