The Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra has named the current Chorus Master David Shaler to the position permanently.
Shaler previously was selected in 2010 for a one-year appointment as choral conductor. Shaler serves as the director of Music and Arts at Broadmoor United Methodist Church.
“We are so pleased that David will continue with us as chorus master of the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra,” Music Director Timothy Muffitt said. “David brings extraordinary talent, commitment and an infectious love of music-making that has had a very powerful impact on our chorus. We are thrilled to have him with us.”
Shaler earned his bachelor’s degree in music education from Bob Jones University, and his master’s degree in music and choral conducting from Georgia State University. He earned his doctorate’s degree of musical arts and choral conducting from the University of Iowa.
Auditions for the chorus will take place by appointment through Sept. 2 at Broadmoor United Methodist Church.
The chorus rehearses 7:30-9:30 p.m. Mondays from September through April in Room 115 in the LSU School of Music on Dalrymple Drive. It will perform at two Masterworks concerts. To set up an audition time, call (225) 924-6269, extension 233.
