The Baton Rouge Ballet Theatre’s open auditions for youngsters ages 8 to 12 and adults for “The Nutcracker — A Tale From the Bayou” are set for Sunday, Sept. 27, at the Dancers’ Workshop, 10745 Linkwood Court.

Since 1992, the ballet theater has been performing the “Nutcracker” production, which incorporates local landmarks and features world-class guest artists, the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra and more than 300 area children.

The production will return to the River Center Theatre stage on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 19-20, with performances at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. both days.

Hundreds of children will be selected to fill the roles of lambs, cherubs, mice, cooks, soldiers, angels and party children. Adults may audition for roles as party parents.

“‘The Nutcracker’ can be a wonderful introduction for children into the magical world of dance and theater,” says BRBT Artistic Director Molly Buchmann, adding, “Many of our young dancers come back year after year because they make friends and memories that last a lifetime.”
