Metropolitan Opera veteran and Baton Rouge native Lisette Oropesa will join the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra in its Masterworks season finale at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Baton Rouge River Center Theatre for the Performing Arts, 275 St. Louis St.
Timothy Muffitt, symphony conductor and music director, will lead “The Viennese School: Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven.”
Oropesa, a soprano, will perform Mozart’s “C minor Mass” with the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra Chorus. Also in the lineup are Haydn’s “Symphony No. 43 in E-flat Major,” also know as “Mercury,” and Beethhoven’s “Symphony No. 5 in C Minor, op. 67.”
Oropesa has appeared with the Metropolitan Opera in more than 100 performances and eight of the opera’s “Live! in HD” productions. She also has sung with the San Francisco Opera, Bayerische Staatsoper, Opera National de Paris, Santa Fe Opera, Grand Theatre de Geneve and Dutch National Opera.
Oropesa made her role and house debut this season as Violetta in the “La Traviata” at Opera Philadelphia and her house debut as Gilda in “Rigoletto” at the Teatro Real in Madrid.
