Louisiana’s Old State Capitol is hosting a Pink Lawn Flamingo Contest to coincide with its exhibit, “Patios, Pools, and the Invention of the American Backyard” set to open Sept. 19.
The show, which highlights mid-20th century lawn and garden design, runs through Dec. 19.
A big part of that lawn decor was the plastic pink lawn flamingo, first designed in 1957.
The Old State Capitol, 100 North Blvd., is looking for entries of family-friendly decorated plastic pink flamingos to install throughout the building. The deadline for entries is Sept. 15.
Museum visitors will vote on their favorite throughout the run of the exhibit, and the winner will receive a prize.
The complete set of contest rules can be at louisianaoldstatecapitol.org/programs-exhibits/pink-lawn-flamingo-contest.
