The Kids Orchestra after-school music program is now available at five additional schools in the fall of 2014: Dalton Elementary, Winbourne Elementary, Magnolia Woods Elementary, Ryan Elementary and the Gardere Community Christian School.
The program is designed for students in kindergarten through the fifth grade and offers music instruction twice a week. The Kids Orchestra also provides homework assistance, transportation and a snack.
The orchestra formed during the 2011-12 school year with 50 students and eight teachers at four schools. Now in its fourth year, the Kids Orchestra is available at 24 schools with the capacity to accommodate 750 children.
“Both the need and positive reception of elementary-age music education has exceeded our expectations,” says Jody Hanet, executive director of the Kids Orchestra. “We are excited to be expanding as more parents and educational stakeholders can experience the success of this program firsthand.”
Tuition is $300 per semester or $600 per school year, and tuition is waived for students that qualify for reduced or free school lunch. Additional merit and financial-based scholarships are also available.
Educational open houses have been scheduled at participating schools for all parents to learn more about registration for the 2014-2015 school year. Participating schools are Gardere Community Christian School, Angles Academy, St. Luke’s Episcopal, Angles Academy, St. James Ministries Fair, Wildwood Elementary, Dufrocq Elementary, Bernard Terrace Elementary, Ryan Elementary, Belfair Elementary, Jehovah Jireh, Capitol Elementary, Winbourne Elementary, Magnolia Woods Elementary, Redemptorist Elementary and The Dunham School.
Students at Westdale Elementary, LaSalle Elementary, Brownsfield Elementary, St. James Episcopal Day School and LSU Lab School may also apply for their school’s program.
