Tickets are on sale for New Venture Theatre’s reprisal of the musical Crowns, set for 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, July 23-24, at Independence Park Theatre. 7800 Independence Blvd.

After sold-out performances of its run at the Manship Theatre in May, the theater company is bringing its production of Crowns to Independence Park Theatre.

Crowns is an uplifting, celebratory musical that features gospel music and “hattitude.”

The story begins with a teenage girl named Yolanda, who has been sent down South to stay with her grandmother after the teen’s brother has been killed in Brooklyn. Hats are everywhere, especially at church, and the older black women she meets use the hats to share the heritage that has sustained them through good times and bad.

The show features such soul stirring classics as “His Eye Is on the Sparrow,” “Wade in the Water” and “Touch the Hem of His Garment.” Crowns was written by Regina Taylor.

Tickets are $20.
