Cutting-edge contemporary artwork from 11 “fresh” artists will be on display Oct. 15-Nov. 13 at Southeastern Louisiana University’s Contemporary Art Gallery in Hammond.
The gallery will host an opening reception from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15. Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday; 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday; and 8 a.m. to noon Friday. Admission is free.
The exhibit, “Fresh: New Master Artists Part 1,” will present collections from the artists that represent a wide variety of media, including sculpture, video, photography, installation art, painting and glass. All of the artists recently completed their master of fine arts degrees at some of the top graduate programs in visual arts across the country.
Gallery Director Dale Newkirk said the goal of this exhibit is to “expose students and the public to young, upcoming contemporary artists of this generation.”
Featured artists are Patch Somerville and Jeffrey Stenborn, of Tulane University; Naama Hadany, Jeffrey Prokash and Kyle Conor Nilan, of the Art Institute of Chicago; Matthew Yaeger, of Virginia Commonwealth University; Rebecca Ott, of the Temple School of Art; Jessica Machacek, of the Lamar Dodd School of Art, The University of Georgia, Athens; Zac Weinberg, of Ohio State University; Roberto Celis, of University of Texas, San Antonio; and Stoney Sasser, of Illinois State University, Normal.
