The Krewe of Olympus celebrated its 27th annual Carnival ball and pageant Saturday, Feb. 7, at the Cajun Dome Convention Center Ballroom.

The krewe’s historical roots were brought “Back in Time — the Roaring Twenties” for this year’s theme. The mood was set with a 1934 Chevy Coupe car and 1920s’ décor.

Reigning over the festivities were King Ares XXVII Troy Bergeron, who portrayed “The Great Gatsby,” and Queen Athena XXVII Pamela Bergeron as Daisy Faye Buchannan.

Entering first was the captain of the ball, King Ares XXV Wayne Domingue, who portrayed Special Agent Elliot Ness. He ordered the festivities to begin.

The royal couple, who are married, are about to celebrate their 35th anniversary. They have two children, Christian and Blake, and seven grandchildren, Antonio, Charlie, Glory, Gracie, Gavin, Gibson and Griffin.

Troy Bergeron is very active in the Scott community, serving on the city council, the Scott Volunteer Fire Department for 21 years and has previously served the Scott Business Association twice as president and remains a member. He also has served as Scott Founders Day Parade chairman and is chairman of the Sts. Peter & Paul Golf Tournament fundraiser. Troy Bergeron, who works for MetLife, was also on planning commission for City of Scott and is a member of the Scott Historical and Genealogical Society.

Pamela Bergeron, owner of Premier Designs Jewelry, is also active in the Scott community, where she has been a past president of the Le Jumelage de Scott et St. Aubin as well as served on the board. She has traveled to France to represent Scott in the exchange programs, and is also a member of the Scott Business Association.

The royal maids and dukes, all married couples, then entered together.

Royal Duke Dr. Darrin Menard escorted Lynette Menard, representing Pretty Boy Floyd and Jazz Music. They are the parents of Brandon, Tyler and Lauren. Royal Duke Kyle Landry escorted Sherri Landry, representing Machine Gun Kelly and the Flapper. They are the parents of Beau and Casey.

Royal Duke Danny “Dee” Leblanc Jr. escorted Robin Leblanc, representing John Dillinger and Glitz & Glamour. They are the parents of Lauren and Nikki.

Royal Duke Kyle Lavergne escorted Kristina Lavergne, representing Baby Face Nelson and Hollywood. They are the parents of Mary Katherine, Anna Claire and Sara Beth.

Court jester Andrea Vera entertained the crowd with a song from the Great Gatsby. She is the daughter of Neal and Mary Vera.

The narrator for the evening was Gary Arnold, and the Commodore of the Krewe of Olympus is Carolyn Cormier Stoute.

At the end of the presentation of the evening’s tableau, King Ares and Queen Athena raised a champagne toast to each other and to their royal subjects. The royal couple along with their royal dukes and maids entertained the guests with a dance of their own.
