  • ART ON THE BAYOU: 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Bayou Waterfront Park, 57845 Foundry St., Plaquemine. A wide variety of art forms will be on display and for sale, along with demonstrations and seminars. Activities include a demonstration on making sleeping mats by crocheting plastic grocery bags (10 a.m.-2 p.m.) as part of the Plaquemine Litter Abatement Program; a writer’s talk on how to get a book published by local author and artist Ruth Williams (11 a.m.-noon) and a demonstration on spray painting art on canvas by painter Randy LaPrairie (1 p.m.-2 p.m.). There will also be a silent auction, food and live music by Abby Johnson and Spectrum and Tracey Brown. Free.


  • THE NEW ORLEANS OYSTER FESTIVAL: Woldenberg Park, 1 Canal St., New Orleans. The bivalve gets the star treatment at this festival, being showcased in a stellar mélange of dishes and as the backdrop for some rocking good music.
