A popular Mid City restaurant known for its hearty vegan dishes has found a new home.

MJ's Café will reopen inside White Star Market in mid-July, according to a news release from the gourmet food hall on Government Street. MJ's was formerly located at 672 Jefferson Highway, and owner Mary-Brennan Faucheux was looking for a new location as the business was unable to renew its lease in the space which also housed an art gallery.

Once Faucheux knew she had to relocate, she said in the release that her goal was "to find a warm and exciting venue that was close to my Mid City clientele."

"I also wanted to present an opportunity to share our mission of healthy eating to an expanded group of potential customers," Faucheux said. "I think White Star Market is exactly what I was looking for."

White Star Market co-owner Whitney Gaines was similarly excited at MJ's joining Mid City's newest and hottest food destination.

"We are thrilled not only that Mary-Brennan will have a place at White Star but that she will continue to have a presence in Mid City," Gaines said in the release. "Her spin on healthy, high-quality lunches and breakfast will be well received at our food hall."

The restaurant will feature breakfast, lunch and specialty vegan desserts. Menu items include vegan BLT sandwiches, falafel waffle salads, vegan cauliflower wraps, almond date tarts and an assortment of avocado toasts.

MJ's will be open 6 days a week, Tuesday-Sunday, and closed Mondays. Breakfast will be served at 7 a.m. on weekdays, and 8 a.m. on weekends.
