Red Stick Farmers Market to reopen

While the Red Stick Farmers Market’s seasonal markets have closed for the winter season, the Thursday Market at Pennington Biomedical Research Center will resume on Jan. 15, a spokeswoman said.

The Saturday market, held from 8 a.m. to noon at Fifth and Main streets in downtown Baton Rouge, is open year-round.

All other farmers markets operated by Big River Economic & Agricultural Development Alliance, including the Mobile Farmers Market, will return in March.

Girl Scouts to begin cookie sale on Jan. 16

Two new Girl Scout cookies — the gluten-free, buttery Toffee-tastic and Rah-Rah Raisins, an oatmeal cookie with raisins and Greek yogury-flavored chunks — will be introduced when the Girl Scout Cookie sale begins locally Jan. 16.

Girl Scouts Louisiana East is piloting the sale of the gluten-free cookie at $5 per box, with all other cookie varieties remaining at $4 per box, upon delivery, said Alisha Moore, vice president of sales at Girl Scouts Louisiana East.

Girl Scouts will take initial cookie orders from Jan. 16 to Feb. 1, and will sell them at booth locations throughout the council’s 23 parishes from Feb. 27 to March 15.
