Friendship Force talks trees, exchanges

The Friendship Force of Baton Rouge held its monthly board meeting on Dec. 8 at the Jones Creek Library.

President Thornton Cofield reported the Christmas party held Dec. 4 at the home of Jim Willis and Emily Stich was a success. He also reported that the Friendship Force Christmas Tree at the library was decorated by Chairwoman Diana Harris with the help of Frances and Charles Bennett, Keith Corkern, Sheila Melancon and Lynn Robbins. After the meeting, the board members viewed the tree and others in the library.

Exchange Director Trudy Ivy reported the date for the outgoing exchange to Charlotte, North Carolina, will be April 8-15. Cofield and Barbara Wittkopf will be the exchange directors for the incoming exchange from the Auckland North Shore, New Zealand. Wittkopf presented the proposed itinerary to the board for the exchange April 22-28.

Newcomers Encore holds holiday luncheon

The Newcomers Encore Club of Baton Rouge holiday luncheon was held at Sullivan’s Steakhouse on Dec. 11.

Toys were collected for the St. George Fire District to distribute to deserving children in Baton Rouge.

The Newcomers Encore Club of Baton Rouge has been part of the Baton Rouge community since 1974 and is involved in philanthropic, general interest and social events throughout the greater Baton Rouge area. More information is available at

Society honors top photographers

New officers and top photographers of the Louisiana Photographic Society were recognized at the group’s annual Christmas social Dec. 9 at the home of Toni Goss.

The LPS Executive Board for 2015 includes President Linda Medine, Vice President Theresa Low, Secretary Cathy Smart, Treasurer Janet Gelpi and immediate past president David Arbour.

Photographers of the year were awarded in levels A and B, plus overall best photographer. In Level B, Kitty Kuhnert won for color prints, and Robin Stevens won for color digital projection. In Level A, Sheldon Anderson won for color prints, Kathy Reeves for color digital projection, Cathy Smart for monotone prints and for monotone digial projection. Anderson and Smart were also awarded best overall photographers of the year.
