Don’t you wish that someone had taught you those things as you were growing up? Volunteers with enthusiasm, life experience and a willingness to teach children about reaching for the stars are needed.

Junior Achievement provides the training, curriculum and a classroom.

SUNSHINE SOCIAL, BREC Therapeutics Department — Erin O’Neil, (225) 272-9200, ext. 143, or volunteer@brec.org: Come out every third Friday of the month from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. to help set up for the Sunshine Social dance. The BREC Therapeutics Department offers programming to adults in the community with disabilities. The Sunshine Social is their dance complete with great music, food and people. Volunteers serve food, welcome participants and join in the fun.

NEED VARIETY OF VOLUNTEERS, Society of St. Vincent de Paul — Pam Nelson, (225)383-7837, ext. 207, or pnelson@svdpbr.com: St. Vincent de Paul has several programs that need volunteer support. The Day Shelter Program is looking for volunteers to care for children while their parents are attending life skills classes. Work is in shifts from 8:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Monday though Friday.

The Shelter Office and the Essential Needs Distribution Center are both in need of volunteers on a regular basis who can answer phones and greet people at the door.
