Altrusa International holds annual party

Altrusa International of Baton Rouge held their annual Christmas party Dec. 15 at the home of Dawn and Mark Meng.

President Jackie Robbins welcomed everyone, club members and guests were introduced, and host Mark Meng blessed the meal. Guests included Jerry Drago, Jerry Craddock, Jim Cole, Gerald Didier, Ken Streater and Jimmy Alford.

Members also donated gifts of toys and refreshments for the children at the St. Vincent de Paul Women’s Shelter Christmas Party, and also collected nonperishable food items for the Hope Ministries Food Pantry.

On Dec. 16, members participated in Literacy Night at Merrydale Elementary School by providing punch and cookies for the students, parents, grandparents and guests. Altrusa members presented about 450 books to the students, giving each a book to take home, as part of Altrusa’s Book Of My Own service project.

The toys for St. Vincent de Paul were delivered by President Robbins and her grandson, Austin Maestras.
