MAKING QUILTS

  • DETAILS: Quilters across America will cut, piece and stitch their way through bolts of red, white and blue patriotic fabrics to make quilts for U.S. military personnel as part of the National Quilt of Valor’s annual sew day. Daisy Comeaux, a local Quilt of Valor chapter coordinator and owner of Cottage Quilts & Creations in St. Gabriel, is spearheading the local event along with The Giving Quilt and The Wasted Women’s Bee. Volunteers from these groups will be on hand to help participants sew, press and assemble the 23 easy quilts that have been pre-cut for this event. Quilters can also work independently on a project if they choose. The high point of the day will be a presentation ceremony of several completed quilts to area veterans. Once completed, all quilts made at this event will go to veterans and military service members with Louisiana connections. Interested participants should bring a sewing machine, basic sewing supplies and an extension cord. Lunch and door prizes provided.
