“Viva Las Vegas” was the theme for the Krewe of Romany’s 67th Mardi Gras Ball Jan. 30 at the Baton Rouge River Center. Reigning over the city’s oldest ladies’ Carnival krewe were King and Queen Romany LXVII Earl Joseph Breaux Jr. and Alyssa Marie Cooper. The king is the husband of krewe member Debbie Breaux. The queen is the daughter of krewe member Ashley Cooper and husband Clay.

The tableau opened with the entrance of ball Captain Kathy Karr Kimble as “Lady Luck. She was followed by the maids. Representing “Paris” was Macy Danielle Delatte, daughter of Kim and Gerrald Delatte. She was escorted by her father.

Jade MacKenzie Dykes, daughter of April and Brett Dykes, represented “The Dunes. She was escorted by her father.

Kelly Elizabeth Garrett, daughter of Stacy and Ken Garrett, represented “The Stardust.” She was escorted by her father.

Rachel Christine Knight, daughter of Tina and Robert Knight, represented “The Venetian.” She was escorted by her father.

Adrienne Carole Lambert, daughter of Collette and Brent Lambert, represented “Thunderbird.” She was escorted by her father.

Katherine Lindsey Vidrine, daughter of Annette and Ken Vidrine, represented “The Tropicana.” She was escorted by her father.

Entertaining the royal court, krewe members and guests were the ladies of the krewe, who danced a Latin number attired in black flowing costumes adorned with tropical colors. The krewe couples danced to an Elvis medley, with the women in gold dresses and the men in black tuxedos representing Ann Margaret and Elvis from the movie “Viva Las Vegas.”

Stage attendants included former Romany Kings Danny Cavalier, Stephen Losby and Michael Anding as well as Paul Schwartz and Brandt Richard.

Also introduced during the ball were 2015 royal court members, ball Captain Melissa Beshears Tolson, King Romany LXVI Jay Ratelle, Queen Romany LXVI Mallory Anne Breaux and Maids Hannah Grace Anding, Mary Beth Barksdale, Carlie Marjorie Dobson, Kelsey Marie Richard and Sydnie Telcide Rowland.

Also members of Romany’s board of directors, President Kay Sonnier, Vice President Terri Cavalier, Treasurer Brenda Torrence, Secretary Brandi Al Jariri, members-at-large Maria Rowland and Tara Schwartz and special advisor Lisa Hutchison Losby.

Master of ceremonies for the evening was Robert Chandler. Music was provided by Phat Hat. Stage design and execution was by Tony Arieux, of American Audio Visual, and sound was by Ben Bennett, of Sound South.

Court costume design was by Todd Averette. Court costume and back piece execution was by Loretta Sheldon and Todd Averette. Maid Jade MacKenzie Dykes’ costume execution was by krewe member Carol Bizette. Jerisse Bolton Grantham, of the Jeffie Jean Dance Studio, provided the choreography and executed the costumes for the krewe’s dance numbers. Lauren Trusty designed the ball logo. Members Gail Nettles and Donna Jenkins served as theme and tableau chairwomen.
