A beer bar and tap room is launching a complete menu overhaul to become a full service restaurant at the top of September.

According to a press release, The Pelican House will expand its menu and hours turning into full service restaurant that will offer lunch and dinner daily and brunch on Sundays. The bar, located at 2572 Citiplace Court, will launch the new menu and expansion on Sept. 6.

The expanded menu will celebrate classic southern food, coupled with some modern twists. Expect sandwiches, salads, snacks, a few "for the table options," and bigger entrees like porkchops and fried catfish.

"Our new menu takes food that I grew up eating at home and takes it to a new level," co-owner/chef Gavin Jobe said in the release. "There are a lot of items that might remind you of childhood but you don't normally see on restaurant menus. You'll see ingredients like American cheese, Blue Plate mayo, bologna and meatloaf. I love taking these types of ingredients that people deem 'trashy' and elevating them to something that's still down home comfort food, but in a different way."

Jobe is also the chef at Meribo, an Italian restaurant in Covington. He has been a silent partner at The Pelican House for a couple of years, but has decided to take a more active role in kitchen.

Some of the new menu items include fried green tomatoes with poached Louisiana crawfish tails and remoulade; "hot tots," or crispy tater tots with melted pimento cheese; a "Sloppy Jobe" sandwich with 12-hour braised beef cheese; and crispy catfish and gumbo with pork shank, black eyed pea and collard green gumbo served over potato salad with a catfish filet.

The Pelican House has been open for four years. Since opening, the establishment has undergone a change in ownership and management. Tim Crochet, Phill Beard and Jobe are now in charge.

"We took a look at what we were serving and decided we were tired of standard bar food," Crochet said in the release. The restaurant has served a limited bar menu since opening in 2012. "This menu update marks the biggest change the bar has undergone to date, and we're excited for people to taste the difference."

New business hours for The Pelican House will be 11 a.m. to midnight Monday-Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Thursday-Saturday. Sunday brunch hours will be 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.. From 9 p.m. to midnight Monday-Saturday, the restaurant will also offer a limited, late night menu.
