“Summer Cocktails: Margaritas, Mint Juleps, Punches, Party Snacks, and More” by María del Mar Sacasa

Quirk Books, $22.95

160-page hardcover

With Tales of the Cocktail underway this week in New Orleans, this is the perfect time to delve into seasonal recipes for adult beverages.

For help with that endeavor, one has to go no further than “Summer Cocktails: Margaritas, Mint Juleps, Punches, Party Snacks, and More” from writer and food stylist María del Mar Sacasa and photographer Tara Striano.

Sacasa and Striano, the pair behind the blog Cookin’ and Shootin’, have produced a refreshing follow-up to their “Winter Cocktails” book. Find your favorite from the 100 recipes for cool classics, punches, frosty drinks and more in “Summer Cocktails.”

The book includes recipes for infused liquors, bar mixes, flavored syrups and shrubs — what the author calls cocktails’ “underpinnings.” And there are even a few recipes for garnishes and nibbles like Sliders and Pickled Shrimp.

There are guides to tools and glassware; suggestions for a well-stocked bar; and step-by-step photographs on techniques for shucking oysters, quick pickling and preparing lemongrass and pineapple.

“Summer Cocktails” offers an interesting mix of great, hot-weather drinks from the bee sting to the salty lime soda.
