The first round of king cakes have been eaten and Mardi Gras balls fill everyone’s calendar here in south Louisiana. If you’re still looking for the perfect dress or accessory, we have some great ideas from Dillard’s, Macy’s, Russo Ross and H&M.

While beaded gowns go in and out of favor, they’re typically a big “in” during Carnival.

“We always do well this time of year with beads. They’re a great special occasion accessory,” says Sarah Massapust, international sales representative for Adrianna Papell, whose glimmering gowns were showcased at Dillard’s. “To have a little sparkle never hurt anybody.”

The fashion world has declared marsala as “the” color for 2015. The designers at Adrianna Papell call their version “cassis.”

“It’s one of our best colors,” says Massapust. “It complements any skin tone … It’s flattering on anybody.”

Gray was a popular color this fall and winter, and it translates into an elegant shade for evening. Then you have the always-in-style jewel tones.

Another popular ready-to-wear trend that’s showing up in the evening are florals, like the flowing silk creation by TeriJon or the watercolor-inspired ball skirt by H&M’s 2014 Design Award winner Eddy Anemain.

Shoppers will also notice more dresses with sleeves this season. It’s an answer to requests from customers who have asked for a little bit of something to cover their arms.

When a gown sparkles and shines, make sure you get jewelry that makes a statement, and don’t forget to find the perfect shoe in which you can dance the night away.

Then there’s the all-important handbag. We like them small, with room for the essentials — lipstick, cellphone, keys — and, of course, sparkle.
