The Friends of Louisiana Public Broadcasting will open the 2011 LPB Art & Travel Auction from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, at the Louisiana State Museum, 660 N. Fourth St.

The auction will feature more than 250 pieces of artwork donated by more than 200 Louisiana artists, and Baton Rouge artist Alex Harvie will be painting live during the event. There also will be live music by the J. Gray Jazz Trio, along with food and drinks.

Admission is free.

Bidders also can bid or use the “Buy It Now” option online. Online bidding begins at 7 p.m. and computers will be available in the museum. “Buy It Now” prices are 20 percent below retail value.

Along with artwork, the auction will include various travel packages. Also, gift certificates to local restaurants, a signed Eddie Mormon print, a bottle of 1978 Chateau Lafite Rothschild and an outdoor chimenea are among the items that available during the Art Rocks Silent Auction.

Tickets for LPB’s 35th anniversary raffle will be available for $35. The grand prize is a 2012 Hyundai Accent, and as an added bonus, anyone who purchases a raffle ticket at Art Rocks will be entered to win a pair of tickets to LSU’s football game against the University of Florida.

The funds raised will be used to purchase programming for LPB.

Donated works will be available for online bidding from Friday, Sept. 30 through Oct. 27. The Art Auction Exhibition will take place at the Louisiana State Museum from Friday, Sept. 30, through Oct. 15. LPB’s Art & Travel Auction will air live at 7 p.m. Oct. 27.
