Main Street Market in downtown Baton Rouge will soon welcome a new tenant.
Chef Celeste Gill is opening Chef Celeste’s Bistro in the food court located at Fifth and Main Streets this May.
Gill is the host of Main Street Market’s Saturday cooking demonstrations “Fresh from the Market.”
In a press release today, Gill said she is looking forward to joining the market as a full-time member.
“I am excited to join the Main Street Market family as a full-time restaurant sharing my favorite Louisiana-inspired recipes,” she said.
The new restaurant will highlight fresh produce and partner with local farmers from the Red Stick Farmers Market. Billed as an open-air café, Chef Celeste’s Bistro will have a menu featuring paninis, salads, and soups in addition to a line of rotating Louisiana-inspired classics like shrimp and grits.
On Saturdays, the bistro will serve an expanded breakfast menu including quiche, pancakes, and grits and grillades. A selection of local culinary products, such as dressings and gelato, will also be available for purchase.
The current space, which formerly housed Taste, is being retrofitted with a new design by Acadian House Kitchen + Bath Design, expanding the footprint of the café and providing customers with an open concept. Counter-top seating will be available in addition to a space for meetings and private cooking classes.
Taste closed in late February. Chef Richard Markert, the former executive chef and owner of Taste, is now the executive chef for Olive or Twist, which is in the midst of expanding to become a full-service restaurant.
Chef Celeste’s Bistro will be open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Saturdays 8 a.m. to noon.
