MORGAN CITY —The Ladies’ Krewe of Galatea celebrated “La Fest,” festivals of Louisiana, at its 46th annual ball and tableau Jan. 31 at the Morgan City Municipal Auditorium.
Queen Galatea XLVI Bonnie Leonard was presented as Mardi Gras.
Accompanying her were pages Leyla C. Birriel, granddaughter of Drs. Thomás and Jane Birriel; Isabella G. Blanchard, granddaughter of JoAnn C. Blanchard, and Mary-Alice Dohmann, daughter of Sharon and Alduse Dohmann III.
The king, Dr. Thomás Birriel, took his bow as leader of the Louisiana festivals, Le Roi, King of the Festivals.
His attendants were Ian T. Carmichael, son of Tracy and Adam Carmichael; Vincent K. Dohmann, son of Sharon and Alduse Dohmann III, and Kyle J. Stansbury, son of Tiffany and James Stansbury.
Other court members were presented as Louisiana festivals with their escorts.
First Maid Shantell Cavalier depicted the Shrimp & Petroleum Festival, escorted by Paul T. Rappmundt as Pierre.
Representing the Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival was Second Maid Angela Kraemer, escorted by Alduse Joseph Dohmann III as Dávid.
Third Maid Sheli McGonagill portrayed the Frog Festival, escorted by Eddie J. Anslum as Etienne.
Introduced as Fourth Maid, Linda Beaubouef appeared as the Cypress Sawmill Festival. She was on the arm of Jean Paul, portrayed by Timothy R. Hoff.
In accordance with Galatea tradition, the members’ young daughters and sons were introduced. Honored as ladies-in-waiting were Mallory B. McAllister, Taylor Picou, Carli N. Solar, Sarah C. Thomas and Quincee M. Wiggins. The young ladies were escorted by Cade P. Thibodaux,Greg M. Gaddis, Cooper G. LeBlanc, Tyler J. Longman and Mateo A. Landry.
The captain, whose name is never revealed, portrayed Louisiana’s state bird, the pelican.
The parade lieutenant, Michele Picou, lead the krewe members as the Tour Guide of Louisiana.
Members of the krewe’s 12 float groups represented froggers, lumberjacks, fishermen, oil field workers, shrimpers and strawberry pickers.
The krewe’s board of directors and officers set the tone of the tableau as a Zydeco band, headed by the board lieutenant, Tammy Beattie. Husbands of Galatea members served in numerous capacities for the gala event. General Chairman Judge Edward M. Leonard was assisted by Sean R. Carpenter.
The Krewe of Galatea will continue its Mardi Gras celebration with a parade at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15.
