Mid City is getting flavorful this fall.

Red Stick Spice Company, a gourmet spice shop that offers sea salts, olive oils and teas, will move from its current location at 7970 Jefferson Highway to 662 Jefferson Highway.

The new location is the former spot of The Orchard, a locally owned store that specialized in Apple products, and in a shopping center that also features The Elizabethan Gallery, MJ’s Café and Reginelli’s Pizzeria.

Red Stick Spice Company owner Anne Milneck says the store’s targeted timeline for opening is November.

“The Mid City bug bit us,” Milneck said. “We had participated in (Mid City Merchants’ art hop) White Light Night twice and got to know the neighborhoods and people in that area. With the changes coming to Government Street in the coming years, we think it’s a great move to head in that direction.”

The new store will offer double the space, around 2,400 square feet. Milneck said the new location will offer a designated space for cooking demonstrations, which have been a popular event.

“We are limited to maybe 10 participants in our cooking demos now at our store because we are using retail space,” she said. “In the new store, we’ll be able to fit 20-25 people comfortably, and I will be able to bring in friends and chefs in town to participate. More cooking demos is our No. 1 request.”

The store’s offerings will also be expanded. Milneck said Red Stick Spice Company will offer more olive oils and balsamic vinegars.

“We’re trying to bring different flavors to our customers, but we don’t want to overwhelm, we want to be smart,” she said. “When you come to our shop, you’re not only going to get the spices, but you’re going to get ideas on how to use it and create a great dinner.”
