LAFAYETTE — The Krewe of Olympus celebrated its silver anniversary at its annual Carnival ball and pageant Jan. 19 at the CajunDome Convention Center Ballroom. The ballroom entrance was decorated with a blue and silver portico as the group carried out a theme of “Olympus Celebrates 25 Years.”
Reigning over the festivities were his majesty King Ares XXV, Wayne Paul Domingue, and her majesty, Queen Athena XXV, Alayne Lauren Hollier.
With the command of this year’s ball captain, King Ares XXIII, Carroll Lee Sonnier Jr., the evening began.
The royal couple led the way for the presentation of the maids. Each represented one quarter of a century of the krewe’s history and recalled the themes of the years each represented.
As they emerged from beneath the portico, they were recognized, and met and escorted by their royal dukes.
Willard Joseph Hanks accompanied Sarah Ashton Simmons, daughter of Marty and Angie Simmons.
Together they represented the first six years of the krewe, 1988 through 1994.
Nicholas John Domingue escorted Melina Marie Mouton, daughter of Robert and Connie Mouton. They represented the second six years, 1995 through 2000.
Franklin Paul Arceneaux escorted Emily Burney, daughter of Daniel and Maria Burney. The maid’s mother reigned as Queen Athena III. They represented the third six years, 2001 through 2006.
Lee Spears escorted Macie Lauren Dugas, daughter of Jack and Lorraine H. Dugas. They represented the fourth six years, 2007 through 2012.
Court jester to Ares and Athena was Logan Richard, daughter of Carla and King Ares XV Donald Richard and granddaughter of King Ares XI J.B. Richard. She entertained the royal court and those in attendance.
Narrator for the evening was Ashley Russell.
The commodore of the Krewe of Olympus for 2012-2013 is Laura Lynn Mouton.
The tableau ended with the royal couple raising a champagne toast to each other and their royal subjects with a promise to reign with affection, loyalty and honor while wishing all in attendance an enjoyable evening and calling for music and revelry to reminisce about the 25-year history of the krewe.
