WHAT: Casey Phillips, co-curator of the BR Walls Project and founder of The Force Agency specializing in strategic branding for arts and entertainment companies and real estate developers, will speak at Creative Louisiana, a monthly lecture series designed to support and accelerate creativity and innovation.

MasquerAID Gala

Put on a mask and party to help restore two historic New Orleans bridges.

WHAT: A fundraising gala hosted by the Re-Bridge Bayou St. John Bridge Restoration Project.

WHEN: 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday.

WHERE: The home of Eric Hess and retired Judge Frank Thaxton III, 1001 Moss St., New Orleans.

DETAILS: Includes an open bar, gourmet bites from Commander’s Palace and SoBou, dancing to a master DJ set of tunes from the ‘70s to today and raffle items for fans of the arts, fashion, dining, drinking and sports. The purpose is to raise awareness and funds for rehabilitating the Magnolia and Walter Parker Memorial (Dumaine) bridges that cross Bayou St. John.

Trees of Light

Listen to a night of music and help The Hospice of Baton Rouge at the same time.

WHAT: The Hospice of Baton Rouge’s second annual Trees of Light: A Night of Music.

WHEN: 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.

WHERE: The Old State Capitol, 100 North Blvd., Baton Rouge.

DETAILS: The Rev. Greg Daigle, tenor, will sing in the House Chamber, and The Jazz Band led by George Bell will play in the Senate Chamber. There will also be a silent auction, a raffle and food. Tickets are $40 each. All proceeds benefit the hospice’s Patient Care Fund. Trees covered with lights that are in memory of or in honor of loved ones will be on the main floor. Lights may be dedicated for $30 throughout the holiday season.

Letters to Santa

Send a letter to Santa and help grant an ill child’s wish.

WHAT: Macy’s annual Believe campaign, where the retailer donates $1 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation (up to $1 million) for each stamped letter to Santa dropped off at one of its stores.

WHEN: Through Christmas Eve.

WHERE: Macy’s stores including locations in Baton Rouge, Kenner, Lafayette and Metairie.


DETAILS: All money raised in Louisiana Macy’s stores will go toward granting the wishes of children in Louisiana with life-threatening conditions. “Believers” of all ages are welcome to bring in their letters.

Holiday Home Tour

Visit homes in the New Orleans Garden District and enjoy live music.

WHAT: The Preservation Resource Center’s traditional Christmas tour will feature six homes decked out for the holidays and a bonus “house” as well as performances by New Orleans musicians.

WHEN: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 8 and 9.

WHERE: Trinity Episcopal Church’s Bishop Polk Hall, 1329 Jackson Ave., will serve as tour headquarters, from where participants will take a self-guided walking tour.

TICKETS: Advance tickets are $30 for PRC members and groups of 10 or more and $35 for nonmembers and are good for either or both days of the tour. Tickets purchased on the days of the tour are $40.

DETAILS: The tour headquarters on both days of the tour will include a boutique — open from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. — and a café — open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. — where visitors can enjoy regional cuisine and holiday shopping among dozens of artists, craftsmen and retailers.
