The Krewe of Romany, Baton Rouge’s oldest ladies’ Carnival krewe, partied to a theme of “Romany Goes Back to Broadway” for its 66th annual Mardi Gras Ball Feb. 7.

Queen Romany LXVI Mallory Anne Breaux and her king, John “Jay” McDonald Ratelle, reigned over the event at the Baton Rouge River Center.

The Broadway-themed tableau began with the couples of the krewe dancing to a medley from the Tony-award winning musical “Motown.”

The men remained on stage to present and dance to the introduction of ball Captain Melissa Beshears Tolson,who, with the dancers, reenacted the grand entrance scene of Dolly Levi, from the Broadway musical “Hello Dolly.”

Carlie Marjorie Dobson, the daughter of Denise and Clinton Dobson II, escorted by her father, began the entrances of the maids. She represented the musical “Pippin.”

The musical “Aida” was portrayed by Sydnie Telcide Rowland, daughter of Maria and John Marc Rowland, who was escorted by her father.

Kelsey Marie Richard entered as the musical “Rock of Ages.” She is the daughter of Toni and Brandt Richard, and was escorted by her father.

The Broadway musical “Chicago” was represented by Mary Beth Barksdale, who is the daughter of Sharon and Phillip Barksdale, and was escorted by her father.

“South Pacific,” the timeless Broadway musical, was depicted by Hannah Grace Anding, the daughter of Greg and Sommer Anding and Dana and Scott Kelly. She was escorted by her father.

Mary Claire Beaver entered as the Broadway musical “Lion King.” She is the daughter of Kim and Todd McCarty and Richard and Tammi Beaver and was escorted by her grandfather, Charles Ray Corkern Jr.

The royal couple then made a majestic entrance. Queen Romany LXVI Mallory Anne Breaux magically “Defied Gravity” from the Broadway musical “Wicked.” She is the daughter of Debbie and Earl Breaux Jr.

Singing “Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You” to the queen, the king made his entrance as “Jersey Boys.” The ladies of the krewe danced to a medley of songs from the Broadway musical “Grease,” and they performed a grand finale to “New York, New York.”

Returning members of the 2014 royal court presented were Toni Accardo Richard, ball captain; Kaci Jordyn Yoder, Queen Romany LXV; Mitchell Wayne Kimble, King Romany LXV, and Maids Milese Nicole Gugich, Allison Joy Provino, Abby Elizabeth Hayes, Shelbie Kaye Schexnaydre, Lauren Antoinette Viator and Danielle Renee Cavalier.

Also introduced were members of the board of directors: Kathy Kimble, president; Kaye Sonnier, vice president; Terrie Cavalier, treasurer; Brenda Torrence, secretary; Brandi Al Jariri and Maria Rowland, members at large: and Karen Corkern, special advisor.

Former Kings Danny Cavalier, Michael Anding, Kenneth Jenkins and Gene Torrence served as stage attendants for the 2015 ball. Master of ceremonies Robert Chandler created the tableau script, with stage design execution by Tony Arieux/American Audio Visual and sound by Bill Bennett, of Sound South.

Todd Averette designed the court costumes, which were executed by Loretta Shelton. Averette designed and executed the back pieces. Jerisse Bolton Grantham provided the choreography and designed and executed the costumes for the krewe’s dance numbers. Lauren Trusty designed the ball logo, Barclell Studio furnished the photography and dance music was by The Bucktown Allstars, of New Orleans. Gail Nettles and Donna Jenkins served as theme and tableau chairwomen.
