Each week The Advocate asks a different “quiz taker” for his or her current favorites in pop culture.

QUIZ TAKER:?Slater McKay, 33, operations analyst/manager for All Star Automotive Group.

WHAT I’M LISTENING TO: “WHYR-LP and Pandora. I’ve recently been turned on to experimental rock like El Ten Eleven and Explosions in the Sky. That style of music is great for contemplation.”

WHAT I’M READING: “I recently acquired a Nook and have been reading voraciously. Nonfiction topics include science, modern military and sociology; fiction topics include scifi and fantasy. Reliable magazine reading includes Business Week, The Economist and Scientific American. I dig Dig and 225 for my local-interest reading.”

WHAT I’M WATCHING: “I don’t typically watch a lot of TV or go to the movies … but football for sure since it’s fall.”

WHERE I’M SURFING (ON THE INTERNET): “The Advocate and Baton Rouge Business Report; I’m a sucker for current local news and commentary. Plus, whatever interesting things pop up in my Twitter feed, from honey badger videos to campaign finance reports.”

WHAT’S YOUR GUILTY PLEASURE? “Each and every time I drive home, I turn my car into the main stage of the greatest rock concert ever. Seriously, I love to sing but be glad sound-dampening technology works both ways.”

BONUS QUESTION:

In addition to your regular job with All Star, you’re the president of Forum 35. Who/what inspired you to become active in your community?

“My family inspires me. In no particular order, members of my family have served in the military, educated multiple generations of children and spent a considerable amount of time trying to make the world a better place. What kind of heir to their hard work would I be if I didn’t continue and expand on it? Family members served as inspiration for my own military service and continue to inspire me to work to make Baton Rouge a better place — even if I’d rather be singing in my car.”
