Hogs for the Cause schedules fundraisers

Hogs for the Cause, a nonprofit which operates as the premier funding source for pediatric brain cancer outreach services in the United States, will hold its 2015 charity barbecue cook-off and music festival in New Orleans on March 27-28.

Ninety teams of amateur and professional barbecue competitors will be vying for title of “Ben Sarrat, Jr. High on the Hog” Grand Champion, along with champions in the categories of Whole Hog, Ribs, Pork Butt/Shoulder, and Porkpourri (anything pork).

A gala dinner will be held on Thursday, March 26, and the event’s band line-up and a pre-sale of two-for-one general admission tickets will be announced Dec. 9.

“The success of the 2014 event has allowed us to provide more grants and funding than we ever have in the past,” said Rene Louapre, Hogs for the Cause, co-founder. “The event has become more than just a barbecue cook-off; it is a major funding source for several pediatric cancer programs in the area and has personally touched more than 100 families.”

The organization has distributed $250,000 into the community since March. A portion of that funding will be used to support the construction of two Stem Cell Recovery rooms as part of the Ochsner Hospital For Children Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant Program, Louapre said.
