RELAY FOR LIFE EVENT LEADERSHIP, American Cancer Society — Angela Nantamu, (225) 927-0782: Volunteers are need to serve on the team to plan the local Relay for Life event.

Event Leadership Team volunteers will have a specific role, such as recruiting teams, mentoring teams on fundraising, planning logistics of the event, planning entertainment activities and organizing fundraising opportunities for team. The team will meet at least monthly until May 2015.

AFTER SCHOOL TUTORS, Baton Rouge Youth Coalition — Chris Parks, (225) 456-5752: Tutors are needed for math, English, science and Spanish. Tutors are also needed for high-achieving high school students.

Most tutoring occurs between 3-7:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Saturday and Sunday slots are available as well.

SANTA’S HELPERS, Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Baton Rouge — Katie Richard, (225) 336-8700, ext. 404: Santa’s helpers will assist staff with a variety of tasks such as donors check-in, gifts check-in, donor runner, caller, family check-in, family runner and family check-out. Staff will provide on and off-sight supervision. Catholic Charities staffs are at the distribution warehouse all day. Santa’s helpers can also cook or donate a meal to the staff on-site.

MATH FRIENDS, Volunteers in Public School (VIPS) — Kimberly Marcelle, (225) 226-4700: More than 200 children in East Baton Rouge Parish are struggling with basic math concepts but do not have a VIPS Math Friend, who are volunteers that meet one-on-one with a first-, second- or third-grade student for 30-45 minutes weekly using instructive tools from the VIPS Math Bin to help improve a child’s math skills.

VITA VOLUNTEER TRAINING, Capital Area United Way — Jillian Sergio, (225) 382-3507 or jillians@CAUW.org: The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program helps low-to-moderate income families by providing free tax preparation assistance. VITA reaches these individuals and families, saving them the cost of tax preparation and helping them claim all the tax credits for which they are eligible.
