Music Club program features four pianists
The Music Club of Baton Rouge held a program that featured music for eight hands on two pianos on Feb. 19 at the Woman’s Club.
Titled “International Music,” the program began with pianists Sara Bidner Ginn, Kay Hawthorne, Gail Kinney and Gay Wood playing Mozart’s “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik- Allegro,” Brahm’s “Hungarian Dance No. 5,” Debussy’s “Arabesque No. 2” and Dahl’s “Quodlibet on American Folk Tunes.”
Soprano Ariana Wehr, an LSU graduate student and Ruth and Dan Bivins Vocal Scholarship winner, performed on the latter half of the program. Accompanied by pianist Kristin Eliason, she sang Handel’s “Guilio Cesare in Egitto,” Debussy’s Quatre “Chansons de jeunesse” and John Kander’s “A Letter from Sullivan Ballou.”
President Rita Lovett welcomed members and guests. Constance Carroll served as program chairwoman. Hospitality co-chairs Helene Irwin, Barrow Leake and Susan Leake provided refreshments. Also serving were David Brown, Helen Daigle, Barbara Dodge, Roland Glover, Brenda Hutchinson, Evelyn LeJeune, Betty McCallum, Winifred Severance and Edna Wilson.
La. cattle trails topic for Iberville DAR
Stella Tanoos spoke about the Louisiana cattle trails to the Iberville Parish Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution on Feb. 26 at the Island County Club in Plaquemine. She said cattle trails started in Louisiana at least as early as 1766 for sure and began to disappear about 1881 when trains were used to transport cattle.
Members discussed the Louisiana State Society Conference to be held March 21-23 in Baton Rouge and reviewed plans for the Plaquemine Pow Wow April 6-7 at the Iberville Parish Museum. Members had lunch at The Island after the meeting.
St. Louis Altar group has lunch meeting
The St. Louis King of France Catholic Church Altar Society held a luncheon meeting with a red, white and blue theme on Feb. 25 in the Parish Activity Center. About 65 members attended.
President Teenie Bajon thanked members for their work on committees. Monsignor Leo Guillot thanked members for their work and dedication to the church.
Bajon thanked Calvin Bajon for cooking the meal and thanked Martha Desselles, Linda Musso, Marie Harrell, Betty Baughman, Rita Valentine, Susan Ricaud, Barbara Schmitt, Evelyn Simoneaux, Jennie Guzzardo, Kathleen Mokry, Clara Earl, Nancy Tate and Buddy Ricaud for helping decorate or serve. Schmitt provided rosary bracelets for door prizes.
