West Florida topic for Livingston Historical
Ascension Parish Librarian Christopher Achee spoke to the Edward Livingston Historical Association on April 16 dressed as Gov. Charles Louis Boucher de Grand-Pre. He told the history of West Florida from Spanish colony to republic.
The Republic of West Florida declared its independence on Sept. 30, 1810, and the parishes of East Baton Rouge, East Feliciana, Livingston, St. Helena, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, Washington and West Feliciana rebelled against the unpopular Spanish government.
Emanuel completes Air Force basic training
Air Force Airman Kaleah J. Emanuel graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas. Emanuel is the daughter of Alicia D. Emanuel, of Baton Rouge, and is a 2014 graduate of Christian Life Academy.
