Cheramie Sonnier, columnist and former food editor for The Advocate, won first place in the National Federation of Press Women’s 2015 Communications Contest for single page, section or supplement regularly edited by entrant — newspaper.

Sonnier accepted the award at the organization’s awards banquet, part of its annual conference Sept. 9-11 in Anchorage, Alaska.

Sonnier also won third-place awards for specialty articles, business, and specialty articles, food.

Karen Rowley, of Baton Rouge, a researcher with the Public Affairs Research Council of Louisiana, was elected NFPW treasurer during the conference.
