Local Links chapters assist with Heart Walk
The LaCapitale and Baton Rouge chapters of The Links participated in the American Heart Association’s annual Capital Area Heart Walk on March 21 at LSU.
The chapters raised awareness in February by wearing “Go Red” to show support of survivor and Links member Dr. Pamela Daniel and in memory of deceased relatives and friends.
The Health and Human Services facet of LaCapitale and the National Trends facet of the Baton Rouge Chapter combined to donate $500 toward awareness, treatment modalities and research.
La. Parliamentarians hold biennial meeting
The Louisiana Association of Parliamentarians held its 2015 biennial meeting March 21 at Kamal’s Kafe in Gonzales.
President Nate Thompson presented two parliamentary education programs followed by the business meeting. Elections were held and the new officers are: Rita D. Bezou, president; Richard Brown, vice president; Gail Johnson, treasurer and Barry E. Brooks, secretary.
Elected to the Nominating Committee were Chairwoman Sarah Holliday-James, Bill Myers and Alison Wallis. Ten delegates were elected to the National Association of Parliamentarians Convention to be held Sept. 4-7 in Arlington, Virginia.
Five students receive Good Citizen Awards
The Baton Rouge Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution awarded five students Good Citizen Award certificates and pins on March 16 at the State Archives Building.
Receiving awards were Carlos Young, Broadmoor High School; Dan Nguyen, Catholic High School; Matthew Tynes, Parkview Baptist School; Kara Peneguy, Runnels School; and Megan Mitchell, LSU Laboratory School.
Nguyen won the essay contest and received a $100 award from the chapter. His essay will go on to district competition. Good Citizen Awards are based on dependability, service, leadership and patriotism.
