A Baton Rouge chef will show off his skills on a popular Food Network cooking show.
Chef Ryan André confirmed this morning that he will appear as a contestant on an episode of "Chopped." The episode airs at 9 p.m. Tuesday, March 20. Details on the episode and viewing party will be released soon.
In the show, contestants are given mystery baskets full of interesting ingredients to make a creative plates of food in a short amount of time. The least appealing dish gets chopped, and that chef is sent home. Contestants make appetizers in 20 minutes, and entrees and desserts in 30 minutes.
André said "Chopped" is one of his favorite shows to watch, and he has always wanted to be a contestant.
"I've been a viewer ever since it first came out," he said. "It's cool to see what ingredients they make chefs use. Even experienced chefs can have some trouble."
The "Chopped" experience was exciting and intense, he added.
"It's definitely something nobody can prepare for," André said. "It was a long day."
The chef has gained a following in Baton Rouge, previously working at restaurants such as City Pork Brasserie & Bar and Le Creole. He is the co-founder of the Gastreauxnomica food group and has recently hosted pop-ups at Cane Land Distilling Company.
