DETAILS: This event will celebrate Southern University Laboratory School’s history and future endeavors while recognizing the Superheroes of “The Lab School Family,” alumni and community partners who have provided in-kind donations, hours of volunteerism and/or financial commitments to the school The event will include a silent auction and other ways to contribute to Southern Lab.
WHAT: John Sykes, executive director of Magnolia Mound, will talk about the plantation’s beautiful gardens

DETAILS: At this meeting of the Baton Rouge Unit of the Herb Society of America (members admitted free), Sykes will talk about restoration of the historic gardens at Magnolia Mound, a remarkable Creole plantation house on its original location, and built in the 1700s. It is now owned by BREC. It is full of historic furniture lovingly bought and cared for by Friends of Magnolia Mound Plantation, a nonprofit organization that supports Magnolia Mound as an important historic site. Sykes is a longtime member of the Southern Gardens Association and is knowledgeable about authentic historic gardens.

DETAILS: The event includes announcement of the group’s Halloween parade theme and grand marshal, royal coronation, awards presentation, board nominations, hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar, dancing, door prizes and a silent auction. Bring a nonperishable food donation or child-sized costume to be entered in the door-prize drawing. Attire is casual, costume or cocktail, but it must be black and orange.
