Perkins Rowe’s Great Hall will be the stage where everyone will be a performer on Saturday.

That’s where the Baton Rouge Ballet Theatre will host its sixth annual “Dancin’ in the Streets” fundraiser.

“We had about 350 people last year, which was our biggest attendance so far,” said Christy Hedlund Benoit, the company’s development and communications director. “We’re hoping to top that this year.”

Proceeds from Dancin’ in the Streets fund the company’s dance education and community outreach programs, as well as its season performances at the Baton Rouge River Center Theatre for the Performing Arts.

And though ballet training isn’t a prerequisite, partygoers should be ready to dance.

The action begins at 7 p.m. and rocks for three hours to the live sounds of Phat Hat. Also featured will be a performance by local dance company Team Leonard, featuring founder Leonard Augustus.

The event also will include a wine “barre” ring toss, a photo area, a silent auction and a grand raffle drawing.

“We’re offering six raffle prizes to celebrate the sixth anniversary for Dancin’ in the Streets,” Benoit says. “Raffle tickets are only $5, and every ticket is a chance to win one of the six prizes.”

In the prize lineup are a game day experience with the LSU Tiger Marching Band, a chef tasting experience with wine pairings for eight from Ruffino’s restaurant, a $500 shopping experience at Perkins Rowe, a six-month membership to Medical Spa of Baton Rouge, a hot-air balloon ride for one from Balloon Rides by Robert and a Michael Kors large leather shoulder tote.

“We’ve also added more food vendors — we’ll have 24 this year,” Benoit said.

But dancing will be the main event, where the crowd of hundreds will gather rain or shine inside the Great Hall and its surrounding grounds to show off their moves.

“It’s always a great time,” Benoit said. “We’re looking forward to another successful event.”
