Tell us about what you’re wearing.

“I’m the mother of three so I’m very economical when I shop. My whole outfit is from Target — my gray shirtdress, my Merona bag, my belt. It’s all from Target. I go there for myself and my girls. It’s very high quality for a low price.”

Who most influences your style?

“Desirée Rogers. She was the event planner for the (Obama) White House and now she’s the CEO of Ebony magazine. She’s from New Orleans and so am I.”

What’s the best fashion advice you’ve gotten?

“Accessorize. Simplicity with a little accessorizing is always best.”

What item do you find yourself buying over and over?

“White V-neck T-shirts.”

What’s your favorite trend now?

“The tribal look.”

What trend do you wish was over?

“Boyfriend jeans.”

Finish this sentence. I splurge on …

“Great bags.”

I skimp on …

“Jeans. The Gap is just fine.”

Are you a shoes or handbag kind of woman?

How many pairs do you have?

How do you know so exactly?

“I count them all the time. That’s including flip-flops and everything. I just cleaned out my shoe closet so I know exactly. I organize them by color, by pumps, by open toe, by slingbacks.”

Do you keep them in the boxes?

“No. My husband built me shelves in my closet so I can see them all.”

Name a celebrity whose closet you would like to raid.

“Nia Long.”

What’s the one beauty product you can’t live without?

Your house is on fire and you can grab only one thing in your closet. What would it be?

“My husband bought me a double-heart Tiffany necklace for my 30th birthday. I’d leave everything to have that.”

Make us laugh. What was your biggest fashion mistake?

“A Jheri curl. I was in the sixth grade and my mom took me to get it. It still haunts me.”
