'Thoroughbreds' still for Red

Anya Taylor Joy stars in the upcoming thriller 'Thoroughbreds.'

Baton Rouge audiences will get a first look at an acclaimed suspenseful satire next week.

Louisiana International Film Festival screens "Thoroughbreds" at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 7, at Cinemark Perkins Rowe and XD, 10000 Perkins Rowe.

Festival members and donors receive guaranteed entry with preferential seating beginning at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. General admission is free and based on seat availability. General admission seating begins at 7 p.m. Patrons can RSVP at liffilmfest.org

Directed by Cory Finley, "Thoroughbreds" is considered one of "the most stunning debuts" at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival, according to critic Brian Tallerico of rogerebert.com. Other critics have compared the R-rated thriller to cult classics like "Heathers" and "American Psycho."

The film stars Anya Taylor-Joy ("The Witch," "Split") and Olivia Cooke (the upcoming "Ready Player One") as childhood friends in a Connecticut suburb who reconnect and bond to solve their problems, no matter the cost.

"Thoroughbreds" also stars Anton Yelchin in his final role. Yelchin, an actor who appeared in movies such as "Star Trek" and "Green Room," died in a car accident in 2016. He was 27 years old.

"Thoroughbreds" will be released in limited theaters on Friday, March 9. For more information on the upcoming film festival and screening, visit liffilmfest.org
