Sherwood Lake Assn. elects slate of officers
The Sherwood Lake Association elected officers at its annual meeting Jan. 26: Mike Hayes, president; Don Frattini, vice president; Doug Pacas, treasurer; Nathan Fry, secretary; Jim Cazes, Terry Edwards, Dennis Kates, Tommy Milazzo and Lynne Peters, board members.
Elected as directors for the Lake Sherwood Club Association were: April Reaux, Thomas Schoen, Elaine Meroney, Larry Peacock, La Tefy Schoen, Raul Travieso, Jan Chiles, Kristin Taranto and Ben Fort.
The Sherwood Lake Association is the homeowners association for Lake Sherwood Acres, located northwest of the junction of Sherwood Forest and Coursey boulevards.
Kenilworth students honored at science fair
Three students from Kenilworth Science and Technology School in Baton Rouge were honored for their science projects in a six-state science fair March 5 in Houston.
Daevyun Williams took third place in the junior division’s Health and Medicine category at the Harmony Science and Engineering Fair, which featured more than 100 projects from schools in Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee and Louisiana.
Andrew Knott and Nicholas Pygeol received honorable mention awards in the junior division.
Hayes graduates from Army basic training
U.S. Army Pvt. Jala Hayes has graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Jackson, S.C. Hayes is the daughter of Cheriefar Hayes-Collins of Baton Rouge, and is a 2014 graduate of Alexandria Senior High School, Alexandria, Virginia.
BRCC’s Salazar named New Century Scholar
Baton Rouge Community College Student Body President Cameron Salazar was named Louisiana’s 2016 Coca-Cola New Century Scholar on March 1.
Salazar, a business major at BRCC, was selected by The Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and The Coca-Cola Foundation based on the score he received on his scholarship application.
Salazar will travel April 12 to Chicago, Illinois, for the annual PTK Presidents Breakfast at the American Association of Community Colleges Convention. The program annually recognizes 52 scholars with scholarships of $2,000 each. Salazar will graduate from BRCC in May with an associate of science degree in business.
