The Manship Theatre at the Shaw Center for the Arts recently introduced the members of its 2012-13 Student Advisory Board.

This board, comprising 10th- and 11th-grade students selected from schools in the surrounding area, participates in programming for the theater, volunteers for educational projects with the theater and mentors younger students in various theater arts projects.

Members of the board are Alys Murray and A.J. Holloway, of The Dunham School; Brittani Dino, of Redemptorist High School; Alexis Grainville, of Zachary High School; Allie Nicholson and Everett Hibner, of Runnels School; Jordan Smith and Michael Hicks, of Episcopal High School; Anna Katherine Dazzio and Meg Grey, of St. Joseph’s Academy; Mary McClain, Leslie DeCoteau, and Chancely Courson, of University High School; and Tia Wicker and Tia Wade, of McKinley High School.

Nutcracker characters tea

Baton Rouge Ballet Theatre is offering its Land of the Sweets Tea, for elementary-aged children and their families, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 25 at Boudreaux’s, 2647 Government St.

At the tea, guests will interact with characters from BRBT’s original “The Nutcracker — A Tale from the Bayou,” including Clara, while enjoying sweets and finger foods. Both children and the characters will indulge in craft-making, photo opportunities and dance lessons.

A custom Clara doll and Sweets Shop dollhouse will be given away. Tickets for a chance to win them are $1 for each item and are also available at the BRBT office at 10745 Linkwood Court.

Advance tea tickets are $25 each or $200 for a table of 10 and can be purchased by calling the BRBT office, (225) 766-8379. If available, tickets may be purchased at the door for $35.

Sisters take first on piano

Jennifer and Judy Vu won first place ($200) for their piano duet performance at the Louisiana Music Teachers Association Chamber Music Competition on Oct. 27, at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette.

Their parents are Kim and Joe Vu. Judy is in sixth grade at St. Thomas More and Jennifer is in ninth grade at St. Michael the Archangel.
