Baton Rouge can’t get enough of Allie Offner’s cupcakes.

Offner is the chef, creator and co-owner of Cupcake Allie. Just weeks after announcing its second location at Nicholson Drive, Offner and co-owner Jay Bookman said a third cupcake shop to be located in Mid City is also on the way.

The new store is slated to open later this year — the beginning of November at the earliest. The location at 3809 Government St. will be much larger than the original at 3753 Perkins Road.

“We will have triple the area for production in the back,” Bookman said. “We will also have a seating area for about 30-35 patrons and a small outdoor patio.”

The Mid City iteration has been in the works for some time, he added. This new location will be more how Offner and Bookman always envisioned the shop, pushing the limits of what cupcakes can be.

In the morning, the restaurant will serve breakfast options such as red velvet waffles and coffee.

In the evening, there might be a pop-up dinner featuring boudin balls coated in cupcake crumbs as well as a small wine selection.

During the day, Offner will also offer a larger selection of flavors of cupcakes.

“We have so many favorites [flavors] now, and we’re constantly coming up with new ones,” Offner said. “We will now have some place to showcase a larger variety at one time. Then, as we transition into the evening at the new shop, the white tablecloths will come out, and we’ll have plated desserts — the elevated versions of cupcakes.”

The first location opened on Perkins Road in the Acadian Perkins Plaza shopping center near Uncle Earl’s in December 2013. By the end of this year, the shop will have grown into three Baton Rouge locations in just two years. Offner still can’t believe it.

“Where we are now on Perkins Road is a stepping stone to getting to the Mid City location,” she said. “We didn’t anticipate it happening so soon. Then, along the way, the Nicholson location came available, and that was too good to pass up. It’s definitely happening all at once.”
