Ready, set, shop!

There are 83 shopping days until Christmas and the Junior League has your ticket — its four-day Hollydays market is a mere six days away with some of the best shopping around. It all gets underway Oct. 8 at the River Center with the Hollydays preview, Blitzen’s Bash. From 5 p.m. -7 p.m. gala-goers can get in some early shopping before heading upstairs for a live auction and cocktail party as well as dancing to the sounds of the Boogie Men.

That auction stars 20 Eames chairs decorated by local artists and others, including TJ Black, Helen Bolin, Tara Button, Katie Cheatham, Mark “fresh,” Kevin Harris, Lauren Barksdale Hill, Norma Killgore, Lamar Advertising staffers, Mark Nikoff, Jennifer Oliver, Molly Quinn, Emily Seba, Lauren Welsh Taylor, Chad Townson, Patrick Tiek and Candace Vallery.

The idea for the chair auction came from Hollydays Chairwoman Elizabeth Laborde, who saw similar events giving Eames chairs to be painted and then auctioned off for charity.

“They were donated through Herman Miller and the local dealership, Workplace Resource, who have teamed up for similar events in Austin and San Antonio,” she explains.

The auction is co-chaired by Renée Skinner and Anna Frey.

“For the first time we’re also having a jewelry pull sponsored by Lee Michaels (Fine Jewelry),” says Laborde. “There’ll be a tree covered in Lee Michaels signature red boxes and every one will have jewelry valued between $35 and $250.”

Tickets for Blitzen’s Bash are $65 each, $120 per couple and are available by calling the Junior League at (225) 924-0298, as well as at the door that evening. Attire is cocktail.

The fun picks back up the next morning with “Dashing Through the Aisles” preferred shopping from 9 a.m. to noon; “Vixen & Vino” wine tasting from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m.; and “Sparkel + Shine” fashion girls’ night out from 6:30 p.m. -8:30 p.m. On Oct. 11, grab the kiddies for Brunch with St. Nick from 10 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., or get your girlfriends together for shopping and a “’Tis the Season” chefs’ showcase from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Tickets to all these special events also include admission to the market.
