Clinton church bazaar offers chili, pulled pork

Home-cooked chili on Friday night and a pulled pork lunch on Saturday are among the food-related items that will be available at the Clinton United Methodist Church’s annual Christmas Bazaar this weekend.

The doors will open at 5 p.m. Friday. In addition to the chili, homemade sweets will be available for purchase. Crafts and a silent auction also will be part of the activities.

Saturday’s event will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., with the pulled pork lunch available from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to those holding reserved tickets. Tickets can be purchased by calling the church office at (225) 683-5472.

Kay Ewing to sign copies of ‘Final Course’

Kay Ewing will be signing copies of her fourth cookbook, “Kay Ewing’s Cooking School Cookbook … The Final Course,” from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, at The Royal Standard, 16016 Perkins Road.

C oncours de Croissant set at SoFAB Museum

The Alliance Française de la Nouvelle-Orléans will hold the Crescent City’s first Concours de Croissant from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the Southern Food and Beverage Museum, 1504 Oretha C. Haley Boulevard. The contest will determine the person or organization that produces the best croissant.

The event will also include a croissant-baking demonstration by Gracious Bakery, discussions about the history of the croissant and the importance of culinary traditions in New Orleans, special activities for kids, free samples and CoolBrew coffee.

Participation in the contest is free. There will be three categories: amateur bakers, professional pastry chefs and a freestyle category that anyone can enter. Judging criteria will include taste, overall appearance, creativity and texture.

There will be a winner in each category .
