The Southern Food & Beverage Museum in New Orleans hosts a free admission day from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
The event marks the close of “The Photography of Modernist Cuisine: The Exhibition.”
The free admission is for Louisiana residents and Louisiana students only.
The day will also offer a 3-5 p.m. demonstration by chef Philip Lopez, who will show some of the new ideas in food preparation, techniques and textures.
Kids in the Kitchen returns to the museum Saturday, Feb. 27, with two South of the Border sessions.
“Tacos!” for ages 7-11 runs 10:30-11:30 a.m. Youngsters will make their own taco seasoning, cook ground beef and finish it off with homemade guacamole.
“Enchiladas!” takes place noon-1 p.m. and is for ages 12-15. They’ll construct cheesy enchiladas, including making their own sauce, sautéing ingredients for the filling, baking them and whipping up guacamole for the top. Black beans will be available for children who do not eat meat.
Cost is $20 per child; $15 for SoFAB members. Each program is a ticketed event with limited space.
