The Londoner Grill planning beer dinner

The Londoner Grill, 4215 South Sherwood Forest Boulevard, Baton Rouge, will hold a beer dinner featuring brews from Parish Brewing Co., of Broussard, at 7 p.m. March 2.

The five-course menu will include crawfish cakes paired with Canebrake; smoked chicken chowder paired with Bacon Canebrake Cask; spring mix salad with citrus vinaigrette paired with Farmhouse IPA; herbed butter poached Sea bass and shiitake saffron risotto with South Coast Amber Ale; and mocha chocolate espresso cake paired with Grand Reserve OR Imperial Reserve. Ghost in the Machine Imperial IPA also will be served during the dinner.

Early tickets on sale for seafood blog event

Early-bird tickets are on sale now for the inaugural Sustainable Seafood Blog Conference, which will be held June 26-28 at The Maison Dupuy Hotel in New Orleans.

Organized by Sustainable Seafood Blog Project, the conference will bring 100 food bloggers, culinary professionals, and seafood industry experts from around the country together for a weekend of hands-on workshops, panels and New Orleans food, said founder and Executive Director Jessie Johnson.

Johnson said programming will include photography, cooking and food writing workshops, as well as in-depth sessions on social media, online advocacy and sustainable seafood.

Dillard, United Way seek chefs for cook-off

Dillard University and United Way of Southeast Louisiana are seeking chefs and home cooks to compete in the “Taste of Dillard Cook-Off, which will held from noon to 5 p.m. March 7 on the university’s campus.

Proceeds will go to scholarships for Dillard students.

Erica Durousseau, development officer for corporate relations at Dillard, said cooks will be competing for more than $1,000 in cash and prizes.

Entry fees cover registration, tables and chairs for booth set-up.

All submissions are due by Feb. 20. Cook time begins between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. Judging for the competition as well as service to the public will begin at noon. Each contestant must have enough food to provide 150-200 samples.

The March 7 event will also feature music performances and entertainment, celebrity chefs, a silent auction and raffle.
