While most young adults are out making summer plans before plunging into the reality that is college, Haley Thompson won’t have a lot of free time.

This 19 year old is a businesswoman, and she will spend her summer days managing — not one, but two — locations of her store, Bliss Patisserie.

Thompson graduated from East Ascension High School in 2015, and opened her first location of Bliss in September at 17188 Airline Highway in Prairieville.

In late April, she opened the second Bliss on the Mall of Louisiana Boulevard.

The bakery offers cupcakes, cakes and cake pops, all available in specialty flavors created by Thompson.

Some highlights include butter cookies, cookie pies and cupcakes flavored like banana split, caramel cheesecake and lemon blueberry.

And the treats have been a hit.

Thompson said she and her team of family, friends, an experienced decorator and apprentice bakers have been turning out nearly 1,500 pastries a week.

In the coming weeks, she’ll debut gluten-free and vegan choices.

Family is important to Thompson’s stores. She comes from a family of entrepreneurs and seeks guidance from them all.

Thompson’s mother manages the finances. Her sister, Toni, owns Shea Couture Bridal and helps manage her social media marketing. And Thompson’s two grandfathers are ready with whatever else she may need.

“They’ll even help run errands or deliveries,” she said, laughing. “They are there when I need them.”

With the full support of those around her, Thompson is already anticipating another store opening in the not-so-distant future.

“I’d love to make Bliss national,” she said. “I’m determined to make the experience different from other bakeries because I want my customers to feel like they are in their own paradise when they experience a taste of Bliss.”
