Red Stick Farmers Markets reopen for fall

In addition to the Red Stick Farmers Market’s two year-round locations, its five seasonal Baton Rouge-area locations are now open for the fall season, a spokeswoman said.

The year-round locations are open from 8 a.m. to noon on Thursdays at 6400 Perkins Road behind Pennington Biomedical Research Center, and on Saturdays at Fifth and Main streets.

The seasonal markets are located at the Unitarian Church parking lot, 8470 Goodwood Blvd., from 8 a.m. to noon Tuesdays; Scotlandville Library, 7373 Scenic Highway, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesdays; Star Hill Church, 1400 N. Foster Drive, 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesdays; Delmont Service Center, 3535 Riley St., from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Thursdays; and Dr. Leo S. Butler Community Center, 950 E. Washington St., noon to 2 p.m. Thursdays.

Wine dinner set Oct. 22 at Alexander’s Market

Alexander’s Highland Market, 18111 Highland Road, Baton Rouge, will host a Tour de France wine dinner at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Six wines by Opici will be paired with wild game such as fois gras, rabbit, wild boar and quail.

“It makes for a rustic yet elegant dining experience,” says Jesse Casciaro, Alexander’s wine sommelier.

The first course will feature Chateau Grand Renom Bordeaux Blanc and seared fois gras canapés with goat cheese Boursin and candied ginger cream, followed by Brotte Côtes du Rhône “La Grivelier” and fresh rabbit charcuterie with French cheeses.

The next course will have Domaine Roux Macon Villages paired with watercress, arugula and cucumber with crispy seared quail, duck cracklins and a creamy pomegranate vinaigrette.

Domaine Roux Rully “Clos de Mollepierres” will be served next, along with prawn, scallop and lump crab cassoulet en croute. The fifth pairing will be Domaine Roux Bourgogne Rouge with braised boar and a black cherry confit. A Domaine Roux Beaune “Montee Rouge” will round out the meal, served with a seared maple leaf duck breast with crystallized orange zest and Grand Marnier glaze and oven-roasted root vegetables with thyme.

LRA sets Taste of South at L’Auberge Casino

The Louisiana Restaurant Association Greater Baton Rouge Chapter will host Taste of the South at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at L’Auberge Casino & Resort, 777 L’Auberge Ave., Baton Rouge.

The event will feature a cooking class and a four-course dinner with wine pairings.
