DAY OF ACTION, Capital Area United Way — Shannon Dietz (225) 382-3503 or email Day of Action, a national day of service, will be held on Friday, June 20, at two locations in East Baton Rouge Parish — Broadmoor Middle School and Baker Middle School.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED, Cancer Services of Baton Rouge — Brian Hannah (225) 927-2273: Various volunteer opportunities available including bookkeeper with flexible hours, reception desk volunteer from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in four-hour increments, and Marketing department with flexible hours.

VOICES FOR CHILDREN, Capital Area CASA — Jennifer Mayer, (225) 379-8598 or email Capital Area CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Association, a nonprofit organization that recruits and trains community volunteers to speak up for abused and neglected children, will hold its next volunteer training class beginning Sept. 9. CASA needs more volunteers to help these children reach safe, permanent homes.

No special experience is required. Volunteers must be at least 21. The first step to getting involved is to attend a brief orientation at the CASA office.

MENTORS NEEDED, Catholic Charities Heart 2 Heart Youth Mentoring Program — Lauren Nyman (225) 336-8700 ext. 405 or Catholic Charities seeks loving, dedicated mentors for children aged 9-17. Mentors meet eight hours a month for one year to build a caring relationship with a youth and help them reach their goals.

BIG BUDDY MENTORSHIP, Big Buddy Program — Laurie Hardison at (225) 388-9737 or visit The Big Buddy Program sets up programs that follow children from elementary school all the way through college. Volunteers are a vital resource for these programs and service.

The program has various opportunities available to impact the community. Volunteers can work with youth during after school/summer programs or with staff at various agency events.

Volunteer opportunities can also include becoming a one-to-one mentor for youth enrolled in our program.
