This year marks the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, and here’s the place to be to honor our veterans.
WHAT: Freedom Walk and Patriot Day observances by the USS Kidd.
WHEN: 8:30 a.m. to noon Sunday.
WHERE: USS Kidd, 305 River Road S.

DETAILS: Ceremonies begin at 8:30 a.m. to honor and remember Louisiana natives lost in the Pentagon and World Trade Center attacks. The walk immediately follows.
Power of the Purse
Grab your purse and come to this fundraiser to, well, grab a purse.
WHAT: Power of the Purse luncheon fundraiser for the Louisiana Capital Area Chapter of the American Red Cross.
WHEN: Sept. 22. Doors open at 11 a.m., luncheon starts at noon.
WHERE: Boudreaux’s, 2647 Government St.

DETAILS: In addition to a purse auction and style show, the luncheon will feature Dave Sanderson, the inspirational speaker and survivor of the “Miracle on the Hudson,” the landing of Flight 1549 on the Hudson River on Jan. 15, 2009.
Bike MS Louisiana
If you’re ready to ride, it’s time to sign up for this annual fundraiser.
WHAT: 28th annual Bike MS Louisiana to benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Louisiana.
WHEN: Oct. 1-2.
WHERE: The first day’s ride starts in Hammond and ends in McComb, Miss., and the route reverses on day two.

DETAILS: Register by Sept. 23 for $40; $50 on event day. Cyclists are required to raise at least $250. More than 1,000 cyclists are expected to participate to help reach a goal of $650,000. Funds raised will support direct services and programs for more than 4,000 people with MS and their families in Louisiana and for national MS research to find a cure for this chronic disease of the central nervous system.
